A Cute and Sexy Halloween Make-up Idea!

Halloween costumes usually go one of two ways, super-cute or hella-sexy. But I’ve got a costume idea that will work on both sides of the style divide: Barbie! There was a ton of Barbie beauty inspiration on the fall runways this season since Babs celebrated the 5-0 this year—and to think, thanks to the plastic skin, faux hair and saucer-size eyes of hers, she doesn’t look a day over 21!

To DIY Barbie’s signature über-feminine beauty look celebrity makeup artist Brett Freedman suggests starting with your eyes. “Dust silver shadow over the whole lid from lashes to brows and add an extra dab to the inner corners, right by thetear duct. Add a sweep of a purple-gray shadow to the crease of the eyelid, then use a felt-tip eyeliner and lightly dot on the lid, staying as close as possible to the lash line. Go back over the lid once more, and this time, press the felt tip firmly onto the skin to ‘connect the dots,’ fanning the line up and out toward the temples on the ends.” Finish off your pastel eye makeup look with bright pink cheeks and lips. Try Stila Cosmetics Barbie Line for colorful shadows, liners and lips! Slip on a tight bubblegum-pink minidress and your night of trick-or-treating will be extra sweet.

A Really, Really, Easy Way to Create Smokey Eyes

You'll want to keep this photo of Jennifer Hudson around for a while; it's a great illustration of the easy eye makeup tip from celebrity makeup artist Jeffrey Paul. It's so simple, you won't believe you ever thought there was a mystery behind smoky eye makeup. Seriously! Paul says just start by applying the darkest color in a tricolor eyeshadow palette(or a dark eyeliner--your choice) right on top of your lash line. Let the color merge into a slightly less dark shade on the lid. Next add the lightest color--one closest to your own skin tone--from the top of the lid all the way up to the crease, then blend them all together so that the whole look seems to fade from dark to light. See how pretty it looks on Jennifer Hudson? She even upped the ante by letting her dark shadows merge into a silvery highlighter shade at the crease line and inner eye, which really opens up her eyes. You can also dab a highlighter at the inner corner for an eye-widening/brightening effect.

Try Paul & Joe's Eye Color Palais Royale ($23) and the lightest shade in Neutrogena's Nourishing Eyeshadow Quad in Blue Smoke ($10) will both do the trick.

Splurge vs. Steal: Guerlain Meteorites & Victoria’s Secret Luminous Face Powder Gems

guerlain-meteorites-vs-exotic-jewels-face-gems

This Splurge vs. Steal has got me a tad bit excited. I couldn't wait to come home and type this up! The contenders: Guerlain Meteorites and Victoria’s Secret Luminous Face Powder Gems. Now I have used Guerlain a few times and have stretched out my usage because of the cost. So when Vicky Secret decided to launch and carry a more extensive make-up offering, in-store, I was beyond ecstatic to find this little gem.

Guerlain Meteorites could be considered by some to be the makeup equivalent of one of the seven wonders of the world. Their packaging is to die for and so is the product. They are powdered little pearls of joy that work to give you a perfect complexion by brightening, lightening and evening your skin tone. Tucked into a box inspired by Marie Antoinette's jewelry box, these little powder pearls are the secret to a perfect complexion. And hold the presses, because the beauty of the Meteorites that Guerlain released with their 2009 holiday collection is love at first sight. But as great as it is and as fabulous as it makes my skin look, at $53 a pop we’re definitely splurging, not to mention I am not a huge fan of the scent ( a tad bit strong).

But then I came across Victoria’s Secret Luminous Face Powder Gems from the new Heidi Klum Exotic Jewels collection. A light shined upon me and the angels began to sing, okay maybe not all that happened. These are also illuminating powder pearls that brighten your skin tone and give you that inner glow. The pearls are a mix of plum, pink and gold – which I use as a blush, highlighter, all over shimmer and brow highlighter it all depends. And at $22, this my fabulous girlfriends is a STEAL! I picked up the Vicky Secret Powder Gems last week and have been wearing it almost everyday. I am in love with this product – it gives my cheeks a rosy glow and the packaging is gorgeous (you know how I go nuts over cute packaging). It’s a sturdy cardboard and the pattern is, as the collection so eloquently states, very exotic.

Both of these products are simply amazing – but the Victoria’s Secret Face Powder Gems is a steal that helps you achieve the same look! So why not go ahead and save!!! My VOTE Vicky Secret!

Perscriptives: Things to Buy Before it's Too Late

Prescriptives: Things to Buy Before It's Too Late

As you may of you have heard, it's curtains for the Prescriptives brand come January. If some of the must-haves in your personal arsenal come from Prescriptives, stock up now before it's too late! Here are a few of my favorite Prescriptives products, from the unique to the indispensable.

What are your must haves from the brand?

Custom Blend Foundation: A signature service of Prescriptives, you'll get a totally custom foundation that fits you to a T. Not only will it be a perfect match, it's kind of a fun process, so experience it while you still can! You can also get custom powder, concealer, bronzer, tinted moisturizer, lipstick and lip gloss. Speaking of lip gloss...

Custom Blend Lipgloss: This is an experience like no other; you get to create a totally unique shade, with the color, finish, and flavor customized to your exact specifications. I know, I know, it's just a lipgloss...but it's pretty special. You can order online, but you'll have many more options at a Prescriptives counter.

Instant Gratification Skin Renewal Peel: This is one of my favorite exfoliators OF ALL TIME, and the one Prescriptives product I'm really planning to stock up on (read: probably a dozen tubes). There are similar formulations on the market from other brands, but none really matches the efficacy of Instant Gratification.

Mineral Color Lip Gloss in Rose Quartz: This lip gloss is almost blinding in the tube, but absolutely gorgeous on your lips. It's a sheer, bright blue-pink with golden and multicolor shimmer, and somehow manages to brighten up your entire face in a single swipe. Looks great on top of lipstick too!

Kiehl's Imperial Body Balm

My deepest darkest secret...I am a addicted to body balms.  I love body balms and can NEVER get enough of slathering them all over.  I have them all over the house under the sofa, in the kitchen, nightstand everywhere. When I heard that Kiehl's had come out with a body balm I had to investigate.  It's my duty to bring the beauty and I can honestly say Kiehl's Imperial Body Balmwill be perfect for winter.  It's thick and luscious.  I can see me using it on a cold winter's day to treat my skin after an invigorating run, or a nice long warm bath.

This balm contains yummy stuff for scaly thirsty skin like Honey, Cocoa Butter and Sea Buckthorn Berry Oil (Naturally replete with Vitamins A & E, Carotenoids and Palmitoleic Acid to protect skin from free radicals, and support skin cell repair from sun and environmental damage. Skin appears healthier, smoother and more youthful)

I like to add oils to my body moisturizers and just a splash of sesame oil will be what my winter-dehydrated-scaly-no-longer-luscious skin needs.  This balm makes my skin feel so good that I find myself rubbing my own skin - (touching my chin to my shoulder) and that my BJG Readers is a good thing!

Poppy Anyone? Burt Bee's Lemon Poppy Seed Cleanser

I finished my bottle of MD Facial Skincare Cleanser and started my mission to find a low cost one that will deliver some of the same benefits.  I wanted something for dry and combination skin that was nourishing and provided added moisture in these upcoming cold months and that cleaned the dirt off my face, and of course I wanted something with some sort of acid.

So I hit the Target aisles and decided on Burt Bee's Lemon Poppy Seed Cleanser. What attracted me to it: it's natural, it has exfoliating seeds as well, and it SMELLED simply delicious! It smells like lemon cookies I have seriously considered tasting it (its natural right?).

I noticed when I opened the jar that is seemed to be very thick, and I used too much the first time, I slathered it on like a mask. A little goes a long way. I would actually recommend NOT wetting your face before using this, as it has a "buttery" feeling and to me works better on a dry face. You may notice a bit of residue which at first made me feel like my face wasn't clean, but it was very clean actually, and in the AM my face felt smooth and moisturized. I can honestly say this cleanser really doesn't strip your face of its natural oils. It may seem greasy but trust me it goes on nicely and afterwards I like the glow it gave my skin. I was surprised for $8.00 I had a really good cleanser. It worked really well after a peel and microdermabrasion, no burning and great moisturizing agent for those NEW skin cells.

Key Ingredient: Lemon Oil: Obtained from the fresh peel of the fruit of the Citrus Lemon tree, this oil is known for its astringent and anti-irritant qualities. Lemon oil imparts shine to the hair when added to hair products, and is also valued for its characteristic sweet, fruity refreshingly clean, lemony fragrance. It balances overactive sebaceous glands that lead to oily, blemished skin, clears and enlivens the complexion and is effective in treating brittle fingernails and in general hand care.

RMS Beauty Lip2Cheek Pots

Hope you had a great BJG Readers. I did, and had the chance to go through my make-up and I found a little gem I decided to revive for the whole weekend. You know you start going through your collection and you see one thing that used to be your favorite and you're like "Ohhhh my goodness I love you, where have you been!" Okay maybe it's just me but I was so happy to see my RMS Beauty Lip2Cheek Lip Tints and Eye Shadow pots. I ran across this brand while searching the web for Eco-Conscious shopping places cannot remember for the life of me why; but stubbled across Vert Los Angeles (www.vertlosangeles.com) which is a L.A. boutique for Green Brands like RMS Beauty. The site is cool and all natural all the time, skin-care, baby-care, and they even have natural dog grooming products!

Lip2Cheek is a unique formula, containing all the benefits of the Lip & Skin Balm, that combines hydration and protection with abundant mineral color for a beautiful, natural finish on both lips and cheeks, with 6 different shades to choose from.

To achieve a new shade or a subtle shimmer, you can combine them with a little hint of the cream eye shadow over the lips alone and/or also gently over the cheeks for a more evening look. To achieve even more shimmer and gloss to the lips, add a sparkle gloss (gold) over the Lip2Cheek. It's the small multi-taking pot you need in your purse at all times!!!!

Whip it Whip It Real Good!

Boy have I got something fun for you gals to try.  Remember that episode of Sex and The City when Samantha was talking about whipped cream in the boudoir? (I know could have been on more than one occasion) But I have something way better than REAL whip cream. Ulta has a Body Whip Cream. The  package looks like whip cream, it comes out as whip cream, it smells like strawberry whip cream but it's lotion. All the fun with none of the mess right. I bought it because it looked pretty interesting. I must admit that it was a bit weird, I mean it can out the can just like whip cream, it was light and fluffy. And no it didn't start to melt. Once you rub it into your skin it's creamy and definitely non-sticky. It actually isn't a bad body creme.  If you are looking for something fun and different to try give it a whip!

Are You getting the most out of your Mascara?

I know, I know I can be very judge-y about women’s beauty mistakes, but I cant help it. Part of the reason why we toss out Mascaras early is probably because we don't know how to get the most out of them. I have watched in horror as really cute girls, have blinked into her mascaras and have wrapped from the top their lashes around and around the brush only to finish with clumps . Wrong. Wrong. Wrong.

Here’s how you should really do it…Step 1. Steady yourself. We’re all pressed for time in the morning, but that doesn’t mean you should try to multitask your makeup. Please, please don’t apply it in your car, on a bus, on a train—in a hat with a cat… you get the idea. A moving vehicle can suddenly stop—why risk poking your eye out or risk having that huge mascara streak on your face which is very hard to remove if you are not in your bathroom.
Step 2. Chin up, eyes down. When you tilt your head back and look down your nose into the mirror you suddenly have a ton of space behind your lashes to work with. You’ll be able to reach every lash now!
Step 3. Move the wand, not your lashes. Blinking into the mascara wand seems to get the job done, but you’re not getting the best coat because you end up missing the base of your lashes completely. Instead, keep your eyes open, place the brush at the base of your lashes and wiggle it up in a see-saw motion up through the ends.
Step 4. Look at yourself in the mirror straight on and admire your perfectly coated lashes.
I promise: With this technique you’ll get wow lashes from your mascara every single day!

Although Technique is super great, tools help as well. I am always in search of a great mascara a va-va voom one for night and a flirty natural looking one for the day. I got Bobbi Brown Perfectly Defined Mascara as free gift with purchase on one of my many day trips to the Bobbi Brown counter. I must admit I have had it for a while, and didn't use it right away as I was testing out another mascara.  I finally decided to use it as the one I was testing, who shall remain nameless, didn't work out. When I first used it I noticed the brush, it's like a multi-combed brush. With one sweep my lashes were longer and it really separated each lash, no clumping not even that strange 3 lash hair clump. It really made the most out of each lash. I didn't have any flaking it lasted all day. The best thing I like about this mascara is that it comes off so easily! All I have to do is wash my face, I don't have to scrub at my eyes or use eye-make-up remover. When I wear make-up I usually wash my face first with the Dove Facial Cleansing Cloths, and I usually have to scrub the lashes to get out the Mascara. But with this formula I just wash lightly and the Mascara is all Gone! It doesn't get any better than that.
Try the Mascara and the Technique and let me now what you think! Disagree? Let me know! How do you put on your mascara? Comment and let is know!

The 411 On Blush

I love Blush!  I absolutely cannot walk out the house without it. Wearing blush for me is like mascara to most gals. I like the way it makes me look awake, bright and always smiley! I Especially love it when I have had a rough night, blush always seems to make me look normal again.

Blushes come in powders (easy to use, works with all skin types), creams (normal to dry skin types) and gels (normal to oily). I love to use creams as I find they give me a more natural, dewy look.  However I also use powders as well.

Selecting a color:

There is no ONE right shade. I have over 10 different colors (not typical I know) but having 2-4 is ok. Different colors work with different seasons, outfits, and times of day. Some colors look good on all skin tones, but you can spot a "wrong" color almost instantly. It will look very light, washed out, too bright, or overly dark.  The ideal shade will be sheer and most importantly "Natural." Just enough to add life to the face (a nice perk me up...better than coffee), but not too much where people can tell you are wearing blush. Also going back to "Blend, Blend, blend" don't be afraid to mix your blushes, just like anything else you may use on your face, blending two tones together can give you a slightly different look, you can add a pop of a brighter shade to your normal neutral shade for a more dramatic night look.

Okay, so How to Apply:

Very simple....I smile and that little puffy area you see when you smile is considered the "apple" of your cheeks. Apple marks the spot (cheesy joke), that is wear you want to apply your color.  From there blend a bit along the cheek bone. Be careful not to do the old fashioned triangle look that blends into your hairline. For Powder blushes you want to apply it with your big powder brush, tapping off the excess before applying.  For creams I usually use my concealer brush to place on the apple of my cheeks then I use my clean fingertips to blend. You can also use a sponge, if you dampen the sponge this will help your cream blushes go on a little more sheer. A damp sponge helps with gel blushes as well as it gives you more time to blend. I  usually apply gel blushes with my fingers as they tend to dry pretty quickly, so move fast.

Here are some to check out!

MAC Holiday: Magic, Mirth & Mischief

MAC holiday collection series brings us Magic, Mirth & Mischief, the name alone sounds incredibly sneak and sexy!  When I heard and saw it I immediately thought of high heels, a flirty party dress and a glass of something bubbly (preferably that Blood Orange Mimosa I just scored from World Market, definitely one to try)

TREND ALERT: GOLD GLOSS

Cheers for the new gold standard this season! "Sheer gold lip gloss looks beautiful worn alone or layered over more vibrant lipsticks like reds, pinks (My favorite of course) and Corals," says Make-up artist Troy Surrant. "The warmth of the gold enhances any color, and the sparkle makes it flattering." Giving you a sexy come hither lips that are to die for. My favorite pairing is over pink lipstick of course, I am a pinky type girl. However, since I have been dabbling in the Chanel Rouge Collection I have been wearing my gold gloss over red and it's H-O-T!!! TRY IT!

Some of my favorite Gold Glosses are:

Benefit Lip Gloss in Zone Out: Which was actually part of the Benefit Glitz, Glam and Gloss Kit we blogged about about a few weeks ago. Get six for almost the price of one.  A major plus, it includes this luscious gold that has small hints of silver. I absolutely love Benefit Glosses and this color (kit) is the BEST! I wear my Zone Out over pink and red lipsticks sometimes I mix glosses too...like a luscious red gloss that is more thick and not sheer, I take the Zone Out and place a dab in the middle of my bottom lip and top lips.

Clinique Long Last Glosswear In Goldspun (this one has hints of silver sparkle too)

Pink Flecked (Absolutely Loves this one) Estee Lauder Opulent Shimmer Gloss in Gold. This gloss looks exceptionally great over pink lipstick but especially great by alone.

LOVES IT!!!!!

New! Chanel Rouge Allure Collection

chanel-rouge-allure-laque
How did your weekend go, I spent mines at the Chanel counter! I am Loving the new Rouge Allure Laque Lip and Nail Color Collection on counters now. It introduces the new Rouge Allure Laque liquid lip color along with three new Rouge Allure Luminous Satin Lipcolor shades and four new Les Vernis Nail Colours.

This new Rouge Allure Laque lip color is just amazing. It Is so flattering on the lips, It's is my personal mission to own them all...I have 2 so far.  This liquid lip color is everything you could ask for: long lasting, packed with rich pigment and feels weightless on your lips. I was used of the thicker liquid lip colors, so when this Rouge Allure Laque just glided on my lips so lightly, It was quite surprising. But don't let the lightness fool you, it is not the least bit sheer. Check out these swatches from Christine at Temptalia.

chanel-rouge-allure-nails
This collection also introduces three new shades of Chanel’s Rouge Allure Luminous Satin Lipcolor. The new shades are Mythic (light beige), Orientale (rose beige) and Fatale (deep plum).

Now onto the nails… just like the rich pigment in Rouge Allure Laque, the new Le Vernis Nail Colours takes a cue from the lip color featuring the same rich shades. The four new shades are introduced with this collection are Ming (pink), Coromandel (deep red), Dragon (true red) and Imperial (brown).

Have you tried the Rouge Allure Laque yet? What’s your take on it? Do you love it as much as I love it? Dragon Rouge Allure Laque and Le Vernis would also be gorgeous for the holidays. I think I may be heading up to Macy’s today to pick up another one, I’m thinking Santal.

Carrie Bradshaw Gets a PERFUME!!

Sex and the City 2 is getting a tie-in perfume.

The new fragrance, SJP NYC, will represent Sarah Jessica Parker , like Lovely and Covet (which I own both fragrances and LOVES!), but this NEW one is more about Carrie Bradshaw. Says Parker, "A large part of the inspiration was what I now understand to be people’s impressions of seeing Carrie Bradshaw walk down the street and what feelings that evokes for her and for them — a real sense of freedom and possibilities, a love for the city around her and, of course, fashion." They must have interviewed me I cannot wait to smell like freedom. possibilities and fashion!

Notes include: top notes of Italian mandarin, white osmanthus and wild red strawberries; a heart of gardenia, honeysuckle, mimosa and red rose damascenia, and a drydown of sandalwood, vanilla absolute, rum flavor and creamy musks.

A bit surprised by the inclusion of strawberry, especially after the creamy warmth of Lovely and the somewhat edgy chocolate-and-geranium Covet? So was SJP. "I have this idea in my head that strawberry is very youthful and juvenile, but this fragrance doesn’t smell candy sweet. It amazes me that this essence of strawberry mixes so beautifully with the more sophisticated floral notes and the musks that I love and will always have as part of my fragrances. In a million years I would never think, ‘Let’s work around strawberry.’”

Being a fan of innovative packaging I must say this packaging doesn't really scream Carrie Bradshaw, I dunno what do you guys think? I was expecting something a bit more edgy and fashionable, stand-out, this looks a bit teenage girlish. Like a bad Betsey Johnson knockoff. Taking a bunch of prints that look like Carrie Bradshaw's dresses and slapping them all on a hot pink background does not a beautiful bottle make.

SJP NYC launches in February and the planned promotional tie-ins include cosmetics bags, bangles and a reversible tote bag.

NOT Loving the Packaging or the fact that it's not, TO ME, truly Carrie Bradshaw but cannot wait to sniff! We shall see!
